The Lizard That Could

Once there was a lizard who tried how to swim
It went in my tub and finally gave in
So I last night, prepared to bathe and walked in to see
The unsuccessful lizard floating, staring back at me!

I was horrified, mortified at the scene that I saw
But then I thought of my camera and wanted to do more
I zoomed the lens on the poor thing and gleely snapped away
For this kind of thing you don't see everyday.

Snap! Snap! went the camera, and soon I was done
I hope the photos'll turn out fine, I sure had some fun!
But then it was time to do, what I had to
To fish the swimming lizard out and drain its swimming pool.

I readied a pail, beside the tub, but settled for a swatter
And with the swatter I pulled it out, from out of the water
I looked at it one last time, and down the drain at last
To endless gushes of splashing fluid, and my face aghast.

So that was the story of bravery, as now you can see
A lizard discovering water, and more than he could be
So to that brave creature, and all that he was
Rest in peace, reborn a fish and god bless, adios.

The photo was taken before I had my digital camera, which means it's in one of the albums somewhere. I'll post it up if I manage to locate it.
