Have You Heard The Story?
Have you heard the story?
This is the life of a lonely singer
Ain't no do no wrong, ain't no sinner
Just the faith, that keeps me on this road
- Lonely Singer, an unfinished song of mine.
I'm really wondering where my muse has gone. It's been a while since I felt the urge to write a new song. Oh I have recorded some ideas alright, but they haven't really developed into songs yet.
It's a dilemma. If I catch on to an idea the moment I get it, and force it into a song, I may end up with a complete song, but the idea behind it is usually underdeveloped. A lot of my songs are plagued with this problem; due to over-rushing, a lot of lyrics are made up on the spur of the moment, as I record them. That's hardly enough time to let the ideas grow.
But on the other hand, if I record an idea, and leave it aside to develop it later, I seldom do. Most of the time after the initial spur of the moment is gone, and whatever adrenaline over my face had long flushed away, when I listen to whatever piece of idea I had recorded, I feel it's great and it should be developed... but try as I may, it's undeniable the feeling has gone. As such, ideas remain ideas. Incomplete songs don't count.
I guess, I'm just craving for another simple person like me, who loves music for the sake of music, who writes songs for the sake of writing songs. Not so much for the name, cash or the sex appeal. Not so much for whether the song will sell or not, but to gain the ultimate satisfaction of writing a good song. My dream is to duet with someone else on the stage, someday. But to search, I don't know where to begin.
Is there anybody out there?
Just like everybody out there
Just want somebody out there, Just like me
- Bon Jovi, Complicated (from the album "Have A Nice Day")
It's really lonely embarking on a musical journey, alone. Ideas are running dry. Chords progressions are starting to sound very much alike. I believe there is someone else like me in this world. There must be. The problem is, where could he or she be?
