Let the Code be Solved

Aw, come on. enough with all the articles on "Debunking Da Vinci Code's Untruths" already. i'm real sick of them. furthermore, there's no pleasure in spoiling the plot and storyline for people who might not have read the book or watched the movie.

I enjoyed reading the book immensely. so much, that it has gone down in my life history as the book i finished in two days after buying it. and to make it better, i lent the book to Esmond, who also finished and returned it before you can say what colour Mr. Dan is.

I enjoyed the book because of its suspense and the lightning-rapid events at every page. most of all, i enjoyed the book as a good fiction. i must admit that the word

F I C T I O N

printed boldly on the top portion of the price tag ruined the story a little for me, but that's what it is and what it should be benchmarked as: a good piece of fiction.

The movie premiers tomorrow (oh, today!). after savouring the book, this was one movie i really looked forward to watching. i searched the internet for the movie trailers and whatever sneak peek i could get my hands on. After long hours of deliberation, i have reached a conclusion:

Tom Hanks is not Robert Langdon.

His emotionless acting, Schwarzenegger-style, does not do justice to the energetic and witty Langdon as portrayed in Dan Brown's book. granted, i have not watched the full movie, but i really wonder why every handout pic, every scene in the trailers must, without fail depict one of the two lead characters in a state of shock/worry/anxiety, and the other perfectly glum/constipated. A good example:

and another one...

Langdon: Psst... Sophie! Over here.
Sophie: (rushes) What is it?
Langdon: (whisper) You have any... laxatives?

Sophie: ...

As Zhen Rong rightly put it, "A star book does not make a star movie". how true. i see the novel version of "Girl, Interrupted" sold over Amazon with the note:

"Much better than the movie!"

I anticipate that pretty soon from now, Dan Brown would regret granting the movie rights and later editions of the book would also include this note:

"Much better
than the movie!"

For a much better portrayal of Langdon and Sophie, check out the short film parody The Albino Code in my link section. Guaranteed to make you smile, if not rotflyao!

wan yean - Right on that! Reviewers are praising Paul Bettany (as Silas) and Ian "Gandalf" McKellen (as Teabing), and pushing the lead characters aside. This is bad. Will watch it with zero expectations. Pity pity pity...

twisted heels - Sorry I can't agree. The LOTR book goes down in my life history as the one i'll never complete xD The movie was marvellous though!

I can assure you though, that he's totally naked. Uncensored by Malaysian cinema! Wow, that's a first.
