The Lake House - Film Review
"What if you worked your whole life, and when you come home, you find there's no one waiting for you?"
Though I've never admitted it, I've always had a weak spot for romantic films... chick flicks, you say? Fluffy storylines, poppy songs, cute actors and (most important!) actresses thrown into fantasy scenarios where everything somehow clicks together to give a warm fuzzy feeling; or to provoke an unintentional tear with a clever play of words.
Make a film with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves in it. Throw in a female dog named Jack, which sleeps like a human and plays chess, what could possibly go wrong?
In short, the plot is about a guy who buys a house on the lake (hence the title). He mysteriously receives letters from a girl, who would become the house's future tenant. By sheer desperation (and some plot unbelievability), they fall for each other. From then on, begins a quest for both of them to meet in a common timezone.
For me, the most memorable dialogue is the deep, philosophical line:
Sadly, none of the songs in the movie stand out, even to a pop addict like me. In fact, having a 70s-sounding soundtrack for a movie set in the 21st century just doesn't quite fit.
Not as good as Just Like Heaven, but all in all, a great movie to watch on a cool, rainy day when all you want to feel is fuzzy.
Rating: B (Note: Thanks Ee May and Liz for tagging me along!)

a dog that plays chess.
sounds interesting already
kopi - Don't just read about it. Go watch it and tell me what you think! :)
i do so very much want to watch movies recently. no luck with the kaki's though. if only my dog were allowed into GSC.
kopi - Yea. Movies ain't fun watched alone. Tell you what! Maybe you can sneak your hamster through... :)
i recently watched dragon tiger gate. no comments. i just love the part when the two brothers talked on the rooftop, with winds blowing and the older brother's face was actually fully covered with his wavy long hair... he ignored it, and kept on talking...
i was the only one laughing in the cinema at that time
wan yean - Hello brother. This post is about Lake House lah. Not Harum Sundal Malam =P

adui... i thought this post is about tha movies ma... so i decided to share my joy with u since i watch movies on rare occasions here u know... *sob*
kopi - Yup. With mozilla, the sidebar magically disappears, right? Don't know how to fix that though :(
For the meantime, well, use IE? xD
wan yean - Don't cry, ok? I was only kidding... =P

celest - If you return to Penang, give me a call ok! We go catch a movie.
hey guess what? i finally understand the movie..a friend of mine explained the whole thing to me...now it doesn't seem so confusing anymore..hehe
lizzie - Sigh... Movies like these are meant to be enjoyed, not over-analyzed! (IMHO)
Anyway, good for you. That was a great movie.
I never knew girls dissect a romantic movie so much :)
heh, there's a Korean version on which the film is based. watch that and analyze summore lah. I believe there's a different ending.
kopi - Is the actress cute? a.k.a. Is the film worth watching? xD
[General comment]
So weird. Seems like my girl friends are giving more thought to the movie than I am... I must be missing something here...
Am I normal? :P
Feel free to find out for yourself...
To me, this is one of those films that make you feel like you are reading a novel, where you get to internalize the feelings, the emotions. One from which many "literary analysis" and interpretations can be made. Nice! But this is the Korean version. Lake House I haven't watched. =(
And you are perfectly normal lah... it's the Keanusitis XD
kopi - Keanusitis only infects girls...
Bullockism is more like it xD
I've watched half of Il Mare ("The Sea") -- the Korean original from kopi's link above. Well, since Lake House is a remake, there are plenty of similarities between the two.
The voice-acting cartoon parts (unique to Il Mare!) are so funny! I keep replaying those parts :)
And yeah, the film is worth watching *wink
Bullockism sounds like a philosophy/religion XD
I know, i was refering to girls lah...
kopi - Oh, my mistake!
But then isn't keanusitis supposed to cause symptoms of drooling at the screen and having total plot amnesia?
Why is it happening otherwise?
i'm stumped for words
