A Coin and a Note

6pm just now, felt very hungry, so decided to head down to my residential village's cafeteria for an early dinner. Took two large scoops of rice, followed by lots of curry -- I like them hot! --, a large scoop of chillied beansprouts and a slice of omelette. [Edit: Forgot to mention that I also had many pieces of chicken innards, what-do-you-call-them.] I was feeling very hungry, remember?

When I went to pay, there wasn't a lot of people so the makcik recognized me and complimented me on my hairdo. I'm not sure but my hair looks better now? All I did was cut it short and dye it brown. Nowadays I don't even gel, style-or-whatever it. I just give it a nice scrub in the bath and that's that. Another proof that we succeed when we least try, hah! (Justifying my laziness :P)

So anyway, she complimented my naturally standing hair, and commented on how her son uses one third of the gel container everyday just to achieve the same effect. Then even without taking a glance at my very full plate, she said "Satu dua", meaning "One two".

Now, this is totally ridiculous!

Such a full plate of rice, packed with three types of lauk, for only RM 1.20? It's true. I happily fished out a note and a coin. That's why I love eating at this cafeteria. For one, it's cheap... no, it's dirt cheap. And second, I just can't get bored of eating curry-flooded rice with an occasional fried chicken or fried egg.

However, the price always fluctuates according to her mood, the time and the alignments of the planets and stars. Sometimes I could take only 2 types of lauk and she says "Dua lima" (Two fifty).

But the "all-time low" that I remember till this day was during the last semester where I took three types of lauk and she said "Satu" (One). Thinking I heard wrong, I cautiously handed her a one-ringgit bill when holding another one ready. She took the one ringgit and didn't say anything. I thanked her and sped off. Ha!

But that was only once and far between. Today's meal stands at second place at the Hall of The All-Time Low.

From now on, maybe I'll have my lunch and dinner earlier.
