RIP, Steve

BRISBANE, Australia - Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition. He was 44.

Yes, I'm as shocked as you are. This was the invincible man who handled crocodiles, lizards and poisonous snakes of all kinds on Discovery Channel. I loved watching his shows whenever I caught it, because of his daring and affable personality. Even to his final breath, he was filming his trademark documentary:

Irwin was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Queensland state when he was stung, Sydney's The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its Web site.
(ibid.)

Nevertheless, I'm certain his shows will remain a great legacy for generations to come. They are timeless, and certainly, no one can match his daring and enthusiasm for nature.

Goodbye and Thank You, Mr. Steve Irwin.

I don't know what to say, before there were rumours that he was dead but those were just hoaxes. I'm still very much in disbelief now. In fact right after reading your post and after following your link to Yahoo News I went to BBCWorld.com and CNN.com, even switched on to Channel News asia and BBC. The news websites confirmed my my worst fear. Yes, I never knew until now that Steve Irwin's safety is one of my major concerns.

He was one of those whom I admire for pure passion for what they do. One can see it in his shows. I remembered when Steve, with wife Terri and Bindi (named after Steve's favourite croc) his daughter were guests in Oprah. I'll never forget how his daughter seemed to share his passion for reptiles. Now, I just want to weep for the his two children and their mother for losing such a wonderful, enthusiastic person/conservationist/documentary star. Today the Australia Zoo weeps. Australia weeps. Documentary watchers weep. Today we lose our Croccodile Hunter. Today is a sad day.

yea so shocking and sad..
I heard the news when i was in the chem lab, some girl shouted "Steve Irwin is dead..got stung by a stingray or something" after reading a sms.then we went to check on yahoo.au..really shocked.how can someone who lived hunting crocs died just like that? What's irony is the stingray is usually not dangerous and only 2 of such cases have been reported in qld and apparent 16 in the world.Haih and I have not seen him perform in the zoo yet...

kopi - Really hope his final documentary will somehow be completed and released...

huey wen - Exactly. On one of his shows, he gets bitten by a python and all he says is "Ow, look at that!". Really respect that man. Stupid stingray.

On a happy note, Mr. Irwin lived an accomplished life filled with his unique brand of passion. Many people with double his lifetime live lives never feeling such passion.
