Natural Beauty

Usually when people ask me what I do, and I say "Physics", they go "Oohh..." (or any other vowel sounds, or a combination of two or more), not so much because they're in awe, but because they don't understand it. But I want to convince you now, that Physics is not all that hard as you may believe.

I'll give you two simple examples.

Case 1: We are bound to Earth by gravity. We can walk on the Earth due to friction between our shoes and the road surface. However, when there is not enough friction, you might find yourself accelerating 9.81m/s² to pay homage to Earth. Depending on which part of your body hits the ground, friction with the ground surface might break the molecular bonds and cause a dislocation defect in your crystal lattice.

Case 2: Due to widespread forestation and harmful chemicals, our ozone layer is slowly being eroded. This ozone layer acts as an effective barrier against UV frequencies emitted from the Sun. So you can imagine that as this ozone layer starts to lessen, more and more UV rays would start to reach ground level. This phenomena is called "global warming", which is happening now as you read this. Now, global warming is dangerous. How dangerous?
