All you have to do is ASK
Reading this post written by Alvin Lim really makes me delighted for other than the fact that it resonates with my current thoughts, it also 'teaches' a way that is on the right path for a person to be successful:
There are times when we become confused by something or found something that we really want to know more. And most of the time, we’ll become stuck after that. We don’t know how to proceed…how to continue from there. And believe it or not, most of the time, the solution can be very simple. If you have doubts over something or you don’t know something…..then find the suitable person and ASK. If he does reply, then good…you can start digesting the answer and decide whether it is helpful or not. But if he doesn’t reply….still I don’t see any harm done on your side. [...]
So, put down your ego, and start asking people. If you don’t ask, you’ll never know. If you’ve asked and you don’t get the answer you seek……..well, at least you’ve tried.
Way to go, Alvin! This advice is really apt, especially for a new engineer like me.
Reminds me of the times I barraged my poor colleague with loads of questions until there was one time, when he was supposed to teach me to use a software but instead we got so off-tracked with my questions and ran out of time. Until now, I haven't learnt to use it. Haha.
