Where's the Instruction Manual?
Life: You spend the first third of it studying hard to be a worker, the huge remainder of it as a worker, and the final years looking back on the days past.
Isn't it just self-indulgent, the way we live?
Try to look beyond my material objects. What is left of me? A soul, filled with greed and desire.
To escape rebirth, one must get rid of all desires.
But in this material world, it's totally paradoxical to have no interest in material and financial gains. Life can't be that shallow. I'm searching for a deeper meaning, a purpose other than my selfish own.
Just think of a person in his final years, and help me wonder: What is it we're supposed to achieve within this lifetime? At this rate we're going, do we really deserve to enter heaven, much less attain enlightenment?

aye. suffering the mid-life crisis at such tender age? =)
If there was an instruction manual, we wouldn't experience the emotions we do have, the past that moulds us and what we deeply want to pursue.
Eh. I'm talking crap. Please excuse me..
wan yean - Nah. Just a thought. Guess it's a quarter-life crisis =P
twisted heels - True. Life would be dull! We would not have the chance to learn and explore otherwise.
Found you via Yasmin Ahmad's blog. What is your definition of enlightenment, may i ask?
I think it's beautiful when someone is desiring to have a selfless purpose in life. I hope you find what you want.
joash chan - Thanks for dropping by!
By enlightenment I'm referring to the Buddhist context of the word, i.e. to end suffering by discontinuing the cycle of rebirth.
I was inspired to post this after reading Lord Buddha's life story -- in which Prince Siddharta renounced his worldly possessions in search of the "cause of suffering in life and how to overcome it".
It must not have been easy for Siddharta to sacrifice the pleasures of a royal life. It is no easier now in this self-indulgent times.
Great post, it's a topic I've thought about a few times, needless to say I haven't found an answer yet. Tell me if you do, ya?
